Best Stuffing
a golden, savory stuffing with sausage, herbs, and crispy edges.
Ingredients
- 1 spicy Italian sausage (or sausage of choice)
- 1 French bread (torn into 1–2 inch pieces)
- 1 1/2 sticks butter
- 1 white onion (diced)
- 6 stalks celery (chopped)
- 3–4 cloves garlic (minced)
- fresh parsley (chopped)
- fresh rosemary (chopped)
- fresh thyme (chopped)
- 2 cups chicken broth
- 2 eggs
- salt & pepper (to taste)
Method

Set oven to 325°F.

Tear French bread into 1–2 inch pieces.

Bake for 20 minutes to dry it out (not toast it!)

OR let it sit out for a few days to get crusty.

Let cool and place in a large mixing bowl.

Brown sausage in a skillet.

Transfer sausage to the bowl with the bread.

In the same skillet, melt butter.

Add onion and celery and cook for 8 minutes.

Stir in garlic, parsley, rosemary, and thyme. Cook 3 more minutes.

Pour this mixture over the bread and sausage.

In a separate bowl, whisk together eggs + chicken broth.

Pour over stuffing mixture and gently toss.

Transfer to a greased 9x13 baking dish.

Cover with foil and bake at 350°F for 40 minutes.

Remove foil and bake 20 more minutes until golden and crispy on top.
Notes
Pro tip: The crispy edges are elite. Don’t skip that final bake.
